Marina Lambrini Diamandis (born 10 October 1985), better known by her stage name Marina and the Diamonds, is a Welsh singer-songwriter. She rose to fame after reaching number two on the BBC Sound of 2010 poll list, coming second to Ellie Goulding. After releasing one private extended play, Diamandis released her second extended play, The Crown Jewels EP, with help from Neon Gold Records in 2009. Now signed to 679 Recordings, she released her debut full-length studio album, The Family Jewels, in 2010. Diamandis will be releasing her third extended play, The American Jewels EP, on 23 March, 2010.

Her eponymous name “Marina and the Diamonds” consists of Diamandis’ first name and the translation of her surname which means “Diamonds” in Greek. “The Diamonds” refers to Diamandis’ fans but is commonly mistaken for her backing band (similar to Florence and the Machine). She also explains on her MySpace page “I’m Marina. You are the diamonds.”

At the 2009 Aria Awards, she won the award for Best Music DVD and ‘Some People have Real Problems’ was nominated for Best Breakthrough Artist Album. George Alley is a true icon of glamour. In most of the ways possible i believe….. If you don’t know that, then you just don’t know of him. I mostly hear his voice on ‘i’m going to kill you’, a podcast that he does with cohort edward bottger. As a listener i have heard him sing often, but these are different…. Destroyer is a Canadian indie group that is fronted by singer-songwriter Dan Bejar. Bejar is an independent singer-songwriter from Vancouver who created Destroyer in 1995. He self-produced his first album, the lo-fi We’ll Build Them a Golden Bridge, which was recorded at his in home studio in Vancouver.

Your Blues is an album by Destroyer, released in 2004. It was a notable departure from the full-band format of Destroyer’s previous few albums, largely featuring MIDI-simulated orchestration as its backing music. It has been variously described by critics as “some kind of masterpiece, the work of a truly original and iconoclastic talent”, “a bold step in a new direction, risking over-the-top theatricality, but with its feet planted firmly on solid ground”, “seem[ing] like a work in progress” and “an acquired taste”.

Even with its Metacritic “score” of 79 out of 100, it could be considered to be critically well-received, frontman Dan Bejar conceded that it may be viewed by some as a “half-baked exercise”, and the MIDI instrumentation as “completely hokey and completely sabotag[ing] the legitimacy of the songs”.
